When you get what you want in your struggle for self,
And the world makes you queen for a day,
Just go to the mirror and look at yourself,
And see what that girl has to say.
For it isn't your father or mother or friends,
Whose judgment upon you must pass,
The girl whose verdict counts most in your life,
Is the one staring back from the glass.
You may be like Jack Horner and chisel a plum,
And think you're a wonderful gal,
But the girl in the glass says you're only a bum,
If you can't look her straight in the eye.
She's the one to please---never mind all the rest,
For she's with you clear to the end,
And you've passed your most dangerous difficult test,
If the girl in the glass is your friend.
You may fool the whole world down the pathway of years,
And get pats on the back as you pass,
But your final reward will be heartache and tears,
If you've cheated the girl in the glass.

Yikes! That girl in the glass is some tough critic. I think I know her...
ReplyDeleteYour mom looks terrific, how lucky you are to have such a great one. And lucky she looks to have all of you. Thanks for the continuing inspiration.

Profound and wonderful words. You are so good at finding perfect music, or perfect words whether you write them yourself or borrow them, perfect things to share and you always make me think about things. That's a wonderful thing - you reach right through and grab me.
