I have work to do !

So I am working on making this the summer of the purge and de-clutter. Last week, I did my closets and the dressing room. Got rid of 4 big bags of stuff to Goodwill and threw out three bags of garbage. Now I am turning my attention to the studio.

I know that for me, art making is always a messy process. I also love to dabble in many pots which requires a lot of tools, materials, ... stuff ! But this is what is happening on my 8 foot work table right now :

I feel the really strong need to get it under this mess control ! It is just too far gone right now. It probably won't end up being "perfect" like some of the work spaces I have seen in magazines lately...

You know the ones...where it looks like a gallery or a craft store...They make me think that that is their "studio" for the public eye, while they have some messy, paint splattered, cluttered room behind a secret panel where the real magic happens ! ;)

But my lovely space does need some t.l.c....

This week is going to be a busy one !

My pal Suzanne is coming down from Montreal today to stay for the week. She is bringing her 110 pound Old English Sheepdog, Sam, with her, so Chica will have one big playmate ! The cats are just thrilled ...NOT !

We will probably hang out on the back deck if the sun keeps up, take the hounds for some swimming adventures, do a little art stuff here and there and, hopefully, hopefully, get the studio cleaned up enough to get back to the Queen of Arts Royal Standards ! (Not to worry too much - those standards aren't too high ! ;) )

This probably won't leave much time for blog posts so it may be a little quiet around here. I will try and find the time to check in on all of my Blogland pals though.

Hope you have a super week, beautiful Ones !

  1. I'm into the summer of purge as well...I think it's something we feel inside as we strive for space and simplicity.

Your work space looks like mine...and then even when I get it tidied, it's back to full out mess in no time!! It's the sign of a very creative soul...trust me on this!! :)

Enjoy your week with your friend...I think blogging goes on vacation while you have so much planned...enjoy every moment, every second.

Love from the Warrior Woman Extra-Ordinaire!! ♥

  3. Your space is still quite beautiful to me though I feel your pain! I cleaned my space a bit, then next thing I knew, the stuff started closing in again. Time for a purge here too, but I'll see if I can push it a bit longer :)

It is so lovely to dip and rip and pull from places all over your space, lol! Have fun with your guests too :)

  7. Hey - that could be shots from my studio! We are a messy bunch, aren't we? Creating space for abundance, for the energy to move in and flow. Not wasted time - it will feel amazing! Go for it!

  9. I always wanted one of those cabinets like Martha...with the wrapping paper, drawing paper and ribbon on rolls on dispensers, everything organized, labelled and most importantly, able to be shut away out of sight when not in use. One day?

  11. Kim your studio is real and true. And as beautiful, and more real as any staged magazine photo.

I loved your obituary. When I first read it I felt actual grief. Like it was real, but then I remembered it was an exercise and I felt relieved. And then I felt pride that you wrote it with the truth and honesty that made it seem so real. You are there sweetie and you are feeling your feelings and moving through them at a speed I feel is astounding and amazing and awe-inspiring. Your journey has been so special to witness. Thank you for that. I Love You! Jamie

  12. oh i feel right at home looking at your creating space :) ... i seem to just keep shoving stuff around until i find i'm working on an area the size of a postage stamp... at some point i finally get to a point where i just have to clean the slate... oddly though when i do that i usually go into a mode where i don't create for a little while, as if i don't want to mess it up again...

i love going through these purge cycles too... lighten the load... it's like shedding a skin to make room for whatever is coming next...

i would love to be in this creative space with you... it's so incredibly colorful and bright and there are so many yummy things to play with :)

  13. I am also de-cluttering and cleaning up, throwing out and organizing. Did my bathroom yesterday, cleaned from top to bottom. Have started on the basement. BUT: I wanted to say: Love your artstuff, and I love your art.

I think your creative space looks like fun - lots of cool crafty objects, fun colors, positive energy everywhere! Have fun visiting with your friend - enjoy!

  19. Kim,

I hope you are enjoying your visit with your pal Suzanne. My studio is starting to look like yours. When you are moving things around to finish something it really is time to clean. I can only tolerate a mess so far in my studio before I have to clean it all up.

I think they should show real studios in those magazines. You know the kind someone put together on a shoestring that is really functioning well. Alas I think they like those pretty studios better.
