She took a good walk the other day, kind of saying good-bye to her usual stomping grounds for the season...
As always, there were beautiful sights to see along the way...
What struck her the most on this walk was the gorgeous contrast of red
on the grey-blue of the day...
That contrast reminded the Rock Fairy of how sharply
a single, simple act of kindness can stick out
in a sea of ordinary, everyday apathy.
Like the couple in the restaurant that anonymously paid for the lunch of the people seated beside them in a diner and sparked a chain reaction that lasted for many hours,
or the family owned jewelry store that is leaving Christmas gifts of jewelry for people in random places around their town...
or, more importantly she thought, the little acts of kindness that don't cost a penny,
like taking the time to sincerely tell someone they have done a good job,
or looking a cashier in the eye and smiling when you say "Thank you !",
or completing some simple task for someone you know is overwhelmed,
or telling someone in your life that you truly appreciate them being in your world.
Like that bright red against the gray-blue, kindness can light up a space, and spark a change in how we treat each others, how we see each other...
As the Rock Fairy finished her final real rock leaving walk of the season, she took notice of the last rock she had put down on the park bench...
It was so fitting, of course, like many of the rock messages seem to be,
The final rock said...
While the rock leaving may slow down during the winter,
the opportunities for being kind never do !
The Rock Fairy was grateful for that timely reminder.
Aren't you ? ;)
Now, Go be Kind !!!
Love the red against the winter brightness. I once had someone give
ReplyDeleteme a bouquet of flowers while I was
at the market as a random act of
kindness. It really makes your day.
We should all do more of it - oh Rock Fairy - and just simply be nicer to each other. Why do we make it so hard....
Love the waving tag in brilliant red...
Hugs,
Corrine
OK, first...THANK YOU!!! Seriously...thank you. Life has been challenging and that little rock was so right on time, the card was as beautiful as expected and even more...the rich colors you use are heaven to me...and the necklace...like a little one, I put it on as soon as I opened it and wore it all over the place. Thank you, thank you for softening my heart and inspiring me to look for love...and be generous!
ReplyDeleteI'll be showing pictures after this weekend :)
...and maybe the Rock Fairy needs a little rest...the snow is a good reason to take in all the beauty that you give out the rest of the year!
ReplyDeletewinter does pose many issues when it comes to our love of art...growl, but you're right....just being nice isn't hard at all !!

love your photos :)
Hi Kim! I am FINALLY getting off my behind and getting in some much needed blog visiting. Usually, I like to read the first post at the top of the page when I visit and then skim up and down and back and forth before I comment at all, but this one stopped me dead in my tracks to comment before I see anything else. What a lovely post! It just lifted my spirits instantly, you and that Rock Fairy. You truly have a gift for loving the world and passing the urge to do so on to those that cross your path.
ReplyDeleteIf I don't do anything else, I wanted to drop off some Christmas cheer and wishes for a very blissful Holiday season with your family and friends. I am so glad to have you in my life and appreciate all the gifts you give my heart.

AMEN! Those simple, random acts of generosity and kindness can make the world of difference. Not only does it make the "doer" feel that little rush of happiness, the person on the other end will carry that with them for hours and then hopefully feel impelled to carry on the kindness and generosity. It's a very domino effect.
ReplyDeleteLooking someone in the eye -- now that one is so easy to do and one that we often forget...it is such a connection and it says to the other person "you have value and I see you". Beautiful Queen!!!
yes, yes and yes... every moment of every day of every month of every year...
ReplyDeletewhen we give we make room for us all to be filled even fuller, higher and deeper...
You are a kind and wonderful soul and you always lift me up! xoxo I hope you have a wonderful holiday season. Peace and Joy to you.

ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful glow you bring to so many Kim. I love the links, and the photos.
ReplyDeletePicture this...I have a tree in my from yard covered with brilliant red berries, dusted perfectly with snow and glowing this dark, cold night from the little mini lights in it's branches. Under my tree lives (really! Right in my front yard!) a white rabbit who hops out and stands on his back legs and nibbles at the berries. It's SO captivating to see him there in the beautiful glow...white on white. *sigh*
So that little vignette is my gift to you. I wish you could share it with me tonight, here by the Christmas tree with a cup of hot chocolate.
Hugs! And from the world to you...Thank you for making it so much more welcoming and encouraging!!

That reminds of me King's, "be the change you want to see". To connect with one person, be kind and/or generous when least expected creates a chain of giving. I've seen it happen in my own life. I hope you're feeling better, keeping warm and being generous to yourself today.
ReplyDeleteO, I just loved this story and the beautiful pictures that went along with it. Thank you, Kim!
ReplyDeleteThank you again, Kim, for making my world better today. I was having kind of a rough morning and wondering how to get through the day, and now I know. I'll get through the day because I'll do something kind for someone.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Al
