Good Morning…

Why I Wake Early by Mary Oliver

Hello, sun in my face.
Hello, you who made the morning
and spread it over the fields
and into the faces of the tulips
and the nodding morning glories,
and into the windows of, even, the
miserable and the crotchety –
best preacher that ever was,
dear star, that just happens
to be where you are in the universe
to keep us from ever-darkness,
to ease us with warm touching,
to hold us in the great hands of light –
good morning, good morning, good morning.
Watch, now, how I start the day
in happiness, in kindness.

Believe it or not, I woke up a little “miserable” and “crotchety”.

(Man, I hate it when that happens. But there is a lot in this world to be miserable and crotchety about if that where you want to go !)

But then I remembered that I have a choice.

I can wallow in the “ever-darkness” all day.

Or I can CHOOSE to “start the day in happiness, in kindness”.

Which would you choose ?

Big Love to you, Beautiful Ones !

  1. Good morning! That is a lovely poem to read, as a fellow morning person. And I must say that you do look fine today Kimmpoo! Hmm, even the miserable and crotchety, huh? I guess so, we all share the same sun. I am looking at the dappled light outside my window, happy to be alive today too. kisses

  7. Love the self portrait my dear. I love how you can change your day around so easily. I am having a great day and hope to continue the optimism. I am not a morning person but I do try to wake early some of the time to see the world at that time of day. This is one of my favorite Mary Oliver poems. along with The Journey...

I plan to delight in my own beauty today!

  8. I've been waking up a teensy bit crotchety the last few days, but this morning something got me up early and I walked on the treadmill for the first time in WEEKS. It felt so good!! I'm delighting in having (and making) good choices!

Thanks for the poem Miss Kim! I adore Mary Oliver and hadn't read this one.
