No delight in white.
Snow has bleached color away.
Thank God for red paint.
(Art journal page from December 2010 – “Just Enough”)
I am craving red.
I even made my Bubbie’s Russian Beet Salad (here is the closest recipe I have found to the one I learned to make at my Bubbie’s side) yesterday, needing that perfect red stain of the beets even inside me.
Today, I will paint the room red as I play in my journal, Golden Fluid acrylics in Quinacridone Red & Magenta, and Naphthol Red Light thrown in for good measure.
‘Cause the world outside my window is too damn white !
The silver in the very white cloud dumping 8 to 10 inches more snow on NH?
David is home for a snow day. Yay !
Happy Friday, Beautiful Ones Off to see red…
ohhh..."off to seeing red" maybe David will make you blush! ~giggle~ I can hardly believe that much snow...this Texas girl does not even know how to think about it...I prefer sunburns, red wine and BEETS!!
ReplyDeleteI am *so* over winter- c'mon spring, let's get a move on!! *hugs*
ReplyDeleteWell that's telling the snow fairy! Denial! Denial! Make it red instead. We're getting snow too, it's light but accumulating at an alarming rate. Thank heavens no hockey tonight! But the next few days are going to be colder than cold. I may have to turn up the red over here too.
ReplyDeleteI see now coloring in your future. Come on, Rock Fairy - paint that white canvas! xoxos
ReplyDeleteI love it when you bring out the red. I crave the blue of the skies and some sunshine... We stillhave tons of snow but at least the roads are clear. Enjoy your snow day!
ReplyDeleteRed will always warm it up!!
ReplyDeletenot much white over here but I'm cooking up lots of color in the mango studio :)
x..x
Enjoy a cozy cuddle while it snows. Quin Magenta, yummy yum yum. Your beet salad looks delish. xox corrine
ReplyDeleteThis time of year my eyes are starved for colour too! And your salad?? Yum! There is a "Russian Lady" at the big farmers market in Edmonton who sells is. I bought some from her once and could not get enough! I came home and made my own reasonable knock-off, but it's great to know the recipe and that others love it too! Funny thing is, with the huge Ukrainian population in Alberta, I'd never tasted this till recently. Thanks for the reminder, and the lovely colours!
ReplyDeleteGo Red or go home!
Your snow white photos are awesome (to watch/see from sunny CA.!!!)
ReplyDeleteI love looking at it but oh so glad I do not have to live in it.
Transfer to RED! Love the beet salad. Did your Bubbie also make borsht?
(sp?) Beet soup?
enjoy!
Haven't exprienced snow except in some hearts.. white hearts.. talk of warmth..and they would turn red..
ReplyDeleteYou need red sox.
ReplyDeleteThe snow scenes are wonderful, with all those fresh dollops all over the railings. Can't get enough of snow, as long as it is NIMBY :-)
Warm, vibrant, in your face, red.
ReplyDeleteI am wearing a bright red jumper as I sit here admiring your bright blog.
Make the white go away.

It does look extraordinarily cold. Your beet salad looks fabulous! Your bubbie would be proud. I think that you can paint the world any color that you want any time you want Kim.

Have a good weekend, Boonie
Loving the red...add some pink and I am there!!
ReplyDeleteSnow pics are fabulous but you can keep the snow. None here...woot!!!
I am loving that too!!

You have a beautiful header. The pictures of a severe winter made me go brrrr!! but your salad is so inviting. Beautiful words describing your feelings too!!
ReplyDeleteDon't you just love the color of beets! I like to eat them too, just boiled up is fine, with sea salt and courase ground black pepper.
ReplyDeleteThe photos are like looking out my back door, (Wisconsin you know). Cold here with plenty of snow. The color I crave is yellow, like in sunshine. Some red would go nicely with that. A red convertable with the top down. Nice stuff!
Peace.
I am trying to make the most of this wintery weather we are being blessed with. sledding helps ;)
ReplyDeleteone love.
I am glad to read you are (almost?) getting over the bad mood (which isn't the word, but I'm Dutch, remember. Can't always find the right words in English...) Celebrate the red my dear - Spring will come!
ReplyDeleteI so understand. glad David is home with you. have fun painting, stay warm and be cozy. hugs.
ReplyDeleteThat's a lot of snow! No wonder you're craving some red. At least you have a warm, cozy place to stay inside and create. Red to the rescue!!
