So Many Gifts...

 

 

Three days until my birthday...

 

The birth festival is in full swing !

 

I have already received so many gifts !

I am filled with gratitude and joy !

I feel so very LOVED !

 

I had a little art tribe gathering at Art More Place hosted by my amazingly generous friend, Sherri, over the weekend. 

 

I wasn't feeling so hot last week, with perimenopausal nightmarish symptoms and anxiety on high alert.

 

But the healing, loving, playful time with my friends has made things so much easier.

 

Though some of the symptoms linger, I have new tools to hold on to, and new thoughts to think as I go through them, thanks to my amazing women friends !

 

 

I am surrounding myself with my all the sweet gifties I received and soaking it all it.

 

Check out how beautiful my lanai looks this morning with my treasures displayed !

 

 

 

 

 

I am finding the words "Thank you!" inadequate to express how grateful I am to my loving, generous, supportive and accepting friends.

 

But I am saying them over and over, and sending them out in big puffs of love from my filled up heart !

 

Thank you, my friends ! Love you so much !

 

For the next 50 Days….

So in 50 days from now,

I will be 50.

50!!!!

How the hell did that happen ?

So quickly ?

Ok, I am a little freaked out about it.

Even though all my over 50 year old friends

(how did my friends become over 50 years old ???)

have told me that 50 is great, liberating, inspiring, the new 40, etc…

It still freaks me out that I am entering this new decade.

I’m working on accepting it and recognizing it is a thing to celebrate.

I also felt that I should think of a special way to ring in this new time in my life.

So in the spirit of focusing on what I want to see more of in my world,

I have decided to dedicate the next

50 days

to

50 Acts of Love, Compassion and Connection.

I have gathered a mental list of some things I want to do, and I have a new little gratitude journal all ready to record the acts.

Some will be small gestures, like leaving a Rock My World rock for someone to find.

Others may be a little more elaborate and push some of my boundaries and fears.

(More on those later in the 50 days…)

I will also try and record some of them here and share what happens when I make this intention.

I have a feeling that the circles of love, compassion and connection will ripple out beautifully !

I’m excited to see what comes my way as a result !

For my first conscious act of Love, Compassion and Connection,

I was inspired by my scheduled haircut today.

My hairdresser, Genesis, is a sweet heart and always makes me feel special and cared for when I visit her. She is an amazing artist with hair. She recently moved into a small apartment of her very own down by the bay. We spoke about her love for candles at my last visit so I made this little arty bundle of love and thanks for her:

Some clean burning beeswax candles, some special rocks, a string of white twinkle lights,

all tucked into a cool cigar box with a pretty fabric nest.

  A homemade card on some cool rusted paper

with a love message inside.

packaged up and

 

tied with a bow for my friend !

Can’t wait to see her smile !

She’s a real Treasure !

I am getting things ready for my lovely niece Jessica’s visit.

She arrives late, late, late tomorrow night.

She will be the first visitor to use our mostly completed guest room.

I like to have a special altar-ish place in the guest room.

I have included a basket of goodies, tea, shampoo, bath things

and I also like to place a carefully thought out bowl of treasures for my guest to enjoy.

As I wandered the house picking up little bits from here and there,

I looked down at the little plate I was using and this face just kind of appeared.

I will admit to placing things just a little, but those two eyes (the glass feet of the plate ), the coral lips and nose, and that pink cheek just fell into place themselves !

I’m calling her “Treasure”, which is the prompt today for the August Break challenge.

Here, I played a little bit with Pixlr Express editing.

Ain’t she sweet ?

that my darling girl will see when she gets here!

Reflecting on the day…

August Break Prompt – Reflections

I had my first house guest in the new Apollo Beach house.

My dear friend Linda is here in FL staying with her mom about two hours south of us.

She made the drive up to have a day of girl friend time and art making.

We reconnected, chatted a lot, had a lovely lunch,

played in our art journals side my side,

and ended the day with a yummy BBQ dinner at a local restaurant with My sweet Hubby David.

It was so nice to have a playmate here !

I have got to get to work on building a tribe here. I love sharing my space with good friends!

Linda gifted me a lovely framed piece of her digital art (Vision – shown above).

It fits in beautifully with my new seaside(ish) home. I love it !

This is the page I worked on in my art journal while we hung out together:

It started out as a kind of mono print spread created with glimmer mist and spray inks and some stencils as well as some india ink dripped on the page with an eye dropper.

Now I have two cool backgrounds to work on.

This first page was done with Sepia India ink and a dip pen and some Distress Ink markers and a blending pen.

Some very cool doodle stories emerging here…

Love the worlds that get created when I let go and let the pen and imagination take me…

Haiku My Heart–Making my Season Merry and Bright

I’m checking the list.

Doing only what feels right.

Love, joy, season’s bright.

I think the perfectionist of old in me has finally truly got it.

There is no such thing as a perfect Christmas.

No amount of decorating, baking or fretting will make it so.

And there is no way to make someone else’s Christmas perfect either.

What there is is joy in giving wherever you can and without expectations.

Little things that make someone smile.

And not expecting everyone to smile, either.

Just giving because your heart feels open to do so, and because you know that it is part of your purpose on this Earth.

And loving what is.

And fiercely loving the people who are in that close circle around your heart,

not with the packages under the tree,

but in the kindness,

the loving gestures,

the real Love giving

that lets them know they are deeply loved by you.

This is what Christmas means to me now.

If it brings my heart joy, I will do it.

If it brings me stress or worry, it will be off the list.

I am making my season merry and bright !

The Universe sent me this smile gift in the form of a food face last night.

Do you notice little gifts from the Universe?

Like food faces,

heart rocks,

or maybe a tune that the dishwasher brings into your head for you to hum along with ?

(Yes, I do need to get out more. Some of my Blogland friends do too! You know who you are !)

Sometimes,

they are harder to see

than the bright shiny gifts that friends give us.

 

Like this glorious print that arrived in the mail yesterday from my loving friend, Sherry.

The piece is by artist and wise woman, Julia Fehrenbacher

and goes along with this incredible post she wrote last week on the Painted Path.

At a time when I have been struggling with loving myself just as I am, right in this moment,

and making each day feel of value to my life,

Julia’s words are like a friend reaching out in the darkness.

Just like my friend Sherry does!

Thank you to both of you for making me feel seen, and loved,

and most of all,

thank you for inspiring me to see and love my blessedly imperfect self !

We are bracing for some kind of icky storm here. A crazy mix of rain and snow and ice and all the crap this time of year can throw at us.

I am off to get a haircut and do a little shopping today,

and then buckle down to some Thanksgiving prep. here at home tomorrow.
