The Mailhot Summer Vacation...Day 1

Our Sound Track (***WARNING*** Extreme cheese alert !)
Play it Now :

July 28, 2009 -

Dear Diary,

We drove up to Mount Washington, NH today.

We climbed over 6000 ft above sea level to get to the summit (in our car !).

The road is terrifying but there are some amazing sights to see along the way !
David drove, I snapped photos out the car window as we climbed.

We even got to bring the beautiful Chica with us, which was a real treat !

I had to leave my trademark Rock My World rocks on the top.

I thought this one was kind of appropriate for the edge of the observatory...

And this "round to it" seemed to fit well in this cairn with a pair of reading glasses and a small wooden cross left behind for others to find. You never know when you may need one...

You can click to enlarge this photo to see the offerings left behind...

Many people have left their mark on the top of this high mountain place...

But the largest and most beautiful mark of all was made by the hand of God...

On our perch on the top of the world,

we took our share of family photos...

Here is me getting some Chica kisses...

And here is one of David's signature looks...

But of course, like in most photo shoots, the kids steal the show...

Here is the Chica-dog doing her imitation of a pig in doo-doo...

she rolled over and over again in the lichen and mountain grass,

obviously just so happy to be there with us!

And then, of course, she gave us that perfect puppy pose for the scrapbook ...

Yes, diary, our July day at Mount Washington

was the closest thing

to Heaven that I've found...

(David and I would like to thank the Carpenters for that perfect soundtrack to our little adventure...we sang it on the way...we are still singing it...because it is just one of those songs that sticks in your head forever, and ever... Glad we could share it with you !)
;)

hee hee..cheesy or not, it IS one of those songs that sticks in your head and I happen to like it -- liked it then, still like it now. And it's a perfect theme song for this day of your vacation.

Love the photos and that the Rock Fairy left her trademark behind.

Thanks for sharing these beautiful views and the family photos!!!

Hey, girl, you rock MY world! Thank you for posting these photos and allowing me to travel to a place I've never seen.

Although I myself do NOT look good in hats, I fully intend to sport a fez, if I can find or make one. Let's do whatever it takes to obtain said headgear and decorate them, as you suggested. I must start thinking about this.

BTW, I still looooove The Carpenters!

who doesn't love cheese?!?

and what a perfect choice, too ...

looks like all three of you had such a great time, and that last shot of Chica is STELLAR with her perfect pose and that incredible backdrop - you couldn't have done better. :)

Thanks for sharing your beautiful pictures of Mt. Washington. I was there many years ago and had forgotten how incredible it is there. A great place for the Rock Fairy to visit!

Hi Kim, I enjoyed your photos, what a gorgeous view. It was a nice virtual trip for me HA! Of course my favorite photo is the last Chica pose.
She's so sweet!

hi kim!
i remember taking that same trip up that big mountain a couple of years ago!!! that drive up was pretty terrifying! (the warning signs that were probably posted back in the 50s didn't help my nerves either!) once is enough for me!

chica looks like she enjoyed being up there and the weather looked sunny.
whoever finds your rock will be thrilled to bits!

these photos remind me of when we drove to the top of pikes peak on the 4th of july...

so scary !

and crap, now I'm so wishing that I left a piece of me behind to be found by someone else !

this was so much fun !

Breathtaking beauty Kim - wow! and I loved your offerings. If that's David's signature look, I think a piercing would be a nice touch - heh heh heh.
The Carpenters were my first live concert! It was my 12th birthday, and Barry Manilow was the warm up! What a hoot, anyway - they have a warm place in my heart - so I'm loving the extreme cheese!
Also just had a memory of sticking my tongue out at my dad as a kid, and he grabbed it - hard, and wouldn't let go. Didn't do that again,
not so he could see anyway :)
HAve I rambled enough for a Saturday morning?! Hope you have a beautiful day! love, Karin
