The Month of Impossible Waiting…

How does a warm weather loving Rock Fairy spend the dull, cold days of February ?

Rocking a new hairdo and puffy, chapped lips.

Lighting candles and sending love to friends in need.

Painting rocks.

Trays of them.

For a spring wedding of an old friend.

Spending time with fast growing and oh, so sweet little Jayden and his Mom.

Trying to take good time for myself and get back to some creating just for me.

A great therapy and escape from winter blahs.

Which I remember whenever I put myself into the studio and give myself a little push !

Creating without any goal in mind.

Letting the spray ink blobs guide me…

Adding in color where it wants to go.

And on this page, finishing it off with some found poetry.

Grabbing a bit of text from a book and circling words that want to fit in…

Leading to a little tale of impossible waiting.

A tale this warm weather loving, winter weary chickie can relate to.

Little porcelain boxes that I have decorated and filled with a tiny “shh…” rock and left as anonymous gifts as I went about my errands around town.

Twinkle lights that shine above Little Happy in the studio.

Naps.

An early prezzie from Santa ! Momma got new red Ariat Cowgirl Boots !!! (50 % Off !!!)

Stitching little gifties for loved ones.

New hair do that frames my face and the sweet time I had with my hairdresser, Deb as we made me pretty.

Christmas shopping done. And one gift in particular that I am thrilled with giving to a certain 21 year old niece of mine.

A day for stitching and card writing today.

A day for baking tomorrow.

The anticipation of some sweet family holiday time and Christmas morning with some of my favorite kiddos.

Life definitely has its fair share of joy, even in the face of many sorrows. It is our work here to focus on it and celebrate it !

What gave me joy this week ?

Rock Fairy business – little bits of my heart sending love out into the world…

I have painted and written thousands of them now but I still get such a thrill seeing a tray full of love !

Meme en francais ce fois ci ! (even in French this time around !)

New haircuts that make you feel sass-say and fun exchanges with your hairdresser/friend !

Knowing that I am heading up north this weekend to be a part of this trio of deBroin women, coming together to put a new roof on the old homestead cottage with lots of help from some great manly men friends and family.

The fact that next weekend, I will be attending this with a dear, dear friend, and getting to see my Writer-Lady friend, Patti Digh in the flesh again. Plus I will doing something wonderful for my Self, mind, body and spirit, with $$ I earned from my art. And having my husband’s complete support and encouragement is beautiful, sweet icing on the cake. I just love it when a plan falls together and you can see so clearly what you need to do ! So excited !!!

All in all, a pretty fine week on the joy-o-meter, I would say !

My new haircut and I are off to Montreal and La Conception for the long weekend.

A family get together to see one gorgeous 19 year old niece off on her adventure.

Some time playing with another gorgeous 2 year old niece and some other sweet family members that will fill up my heart.

Leaving a surprise giftie for a friend turning fifty.

And seeing a few friends who are really nifty…

big groan…

I may be an artist but poet, maybe not so much !!! ;)

And now introducing....

Cosmo Kitty !!!

The newest member of our family!!! After losing Singer and all the sadness around her being sick and so on, we decided it was the right thing for us to bring a new little life into our home. We got this fabulously black sweet boy through Animal Alliance - a local rescue organization for cats in our area. He is 16 weeks old and was one of the last kitties of his litter to be rescued. I guess some people don't like black cats but they are a big favorite with me ! Cosmo, or Cosmos with a silent "s" is his name, after the blackness of that shiny coat of his, and the sparkly eyes and spirit in him that remind me of the stars !

He is settling in quickly into our house after just two days.

We put him into our dressing room where he could meet the other guys through the glass of the French doors first.

Azzy is our four year old tabby. I think he is the most reluctant to say he is glad that Cosmo is here. We thought he would be so glad to have a playmate but he is still accessing the situation.

Chica on the other hand is totally fine. The little guy wasn't afraid of her one bit !!

He is already batting her tail whenever she wags it in front of him. He is a spirited little guy !

This shot proves we are all going to be okay !

Here are Chica, Azzy and Cosmo all on the daybed in Dave's office TOGETHER !

Azzy is pretty big, and kinda chunky - check out the "littleness" of my sweet new guy beside his gorgeous fat cat bro.

The fat cat has already taught the little one some bad habits - like sitting on the

dining room table to watch the passersby !

One of the most touching things is that we keep finding the

little Cosmo kitty lying like this on the chair where Singer spent

so much time in her last days with us. Sad, touching, right somehow...

I am one happy Momma !

Heavenly !

And yes, that is a new hair cut ! I am loving it !

I also had a blast going to a brand new hairdresser yesterday.

We rocked it together and I am now rocking the new do !

I have had some time to do a little bit of art

in the midst of all the excitement of the last few days.

This is my latest journal page.

I love, love love this poem by Rumi.

The background for this piece was actually started in Judy Wise's Play Book Class at Squam.

I actually started with the face of the bird. I took a photograph of a child's face from a magazine, lightly gessoed it and then painted and drew the features back on. (great technique if you're not great at drawing "realistic" faces, like me !) I integrated it into a bird's body which I drew and then painted purple.

I printed the poem out on regular photocopy paper and then sliced it up. I added the hands which are images from an anatomy book I found on Flick'r. Some details other details were added to the page with my tool of choice, the dip pen and black ink, and a cork and a pencil dipped in white paint .

Basically, I played using all kinds of stuff I have learned from all over the place, including some wonderful teachers along the way. I also put a lot of ME in there, make it my own.

Today, I am so very grateful for the fact that I know how to play.

I rediscovered how to play fearlessly.

That has become a great gift in my life !

I wish the same for anyone who is still holding on to the fear of looking silly or making a mess or having too much fun, you know , like kids do.

Play is really good for you, you know. Even the Greek philosophers knew it :

"Man is most nearly himself when he achieves the seriousness of a child at play." - Heraclitus

So I hope you play the day away, Beautiful Ones !

Post 202 - Honors and a New Do

As I logged into Blogger to do this post, I saw that I have reached my 200 and 2nd post.
Wow ! That is a lot of posts in a year and a half, isn't it ?

I really can't imagine my life without my blog anymore. I would miss it and my Blogland friends too much to ever quit, I think. I get so many rewards from it, both from the connection to others that I love and appreciate so much, and also from the chance to express myself, putting little pieces of me out there in the shiny light. It is a sweet thing, this blogging world.

I am not going to do a giveaway or anything this time...seems like I just slowly and gratefully walked by that cool milestone on my own some how. Here's to the next 200 Queen of Arts posts ! :)

Speaking of the wonderful connections I have in Blogland, my lovely friend Lesley at the Funky Art Queen, honored me with the Queen of All Things Awe-Summm award on her blog yesterday. I love that one Queen passed the award on to another ! I am also very touched that Lesley considers me a "faithful and every present blog friend", something that I definitely strive for in Blogland everyday. Such perfect Blogland Love !

There are always rules for these awards, which of course, I am going to use as guidelines instead! ;)
